Bad breath

Technically known as halitosis, encountering bad breath can be quite humiliating and lowers self-confidence levels. However, there may be many reasons for the formation of bad odor in the mouth such as the presence of bacteria on the tongue, dryness of the mouth, cavities and gum diseases. If the individual encounters bad breathe consistently regardless of frequent brushing, it can be sourced to a dental condition. A common misconception among the mass is that the use of mouthwash will cure bad breath. However, that is false as mouthwash merely masks the odor and does not redress it. Tooth decay

Tooth decay or cavities is the second most prevalent disease after the common cold. Cavities are formed when plaque present in the teeth are combined with the sugars of food particles consumed which; as a result, form acids that attack and harm the enamel. Tooth decay can be prevented by following up good dental hygiene such as brushing twice daily, flossing consistently, consuming healthy food and less of sugar oriented food and by visiting your dentist regularly.

Gum disease

Also known as periodontal disease, it is formed when there is an infection in gums around the teeth. It is one of the leading concerns for loss of teeth among adults, mainly after the age of 30. Gum diseases are of two major stages, namely, gingivitis and periodontitis. Presence of gum disease can be recognized through various factors such as swollen or tender gums, bleeding in gums, painful chewing, and bad breath. Following basic dental hygiene such as brushing twice daily along with flossing or visiting the dentist for further advice can help prevent gum disease.

Oral cancer

Oral cancer is a very deadly disease that claims numerous lives every year. Regularly chewing tobacco, smoking and alcohol consumption can give rise to oral cancer. Oral cancer is characterized by a lump or sore in the mouth and causes difficulty in jaw movement. Indulging in regular dental visits and informing the dentist of anything unusual can help the dentist in giving an apt diagnosis.

Mouth sores

Mouth sores often appear inside the mouth and can cause quite the sting. However, these sores will go and heal by itself within a matter of 1 or 2 weeks. If they persist, then it is to be shown at your nearest dentist for further clarification. Different types of mouth sores are typical canker sores and fever blisters; such are caused by a virus and form on the outer edge of the lip rather than the inside.

Tooth erosion

Tooth erosion is caused when acid is formed and disintegrates the enamel layer of the teeth. It is quite common and if left untreated, can cause significant cracks and breaking. However, pursuing basic dental hygiene can help avoid this.

Tooth sensitivity

A frequent issue faced by millions, tooth sensitivity, arise when the teeth feel a stinging like sensation when consuming hot and cold beverages or food items and when brushing.  Such sensitivity may due to a cracked tooth or presence of tooth abscess. Visiting your dentist can help avoid and redress such issues.

Unattractive smile

When possessing broken teeth, rotten teeth and yellow teeth, smiling to our content can be embarrassing and humiliating which in turn takes a toll on our self-confidence levels.
